Green Day’s American Idiot is a story told through punk rock numbers about addiction, the media, violence, rage, lust, and discovery. The set design’s purpose for this show was to provide a foundation for lighting, special effects, and video projections while maintaining an industrial aesthetic that could be used for various locations. The design itself is relatively skeletal, providing levels and varied architectural configurations onstage. This design is the fusion of rock concert stage design and theatrical, almost operatic, stage design.
