This production is designed for the Catawba Theatre at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. There are pre-existing seating banks that have been designed to border the perimeter of the theatre. The walls of the set are placed in front of them. The audience is seated in chairs in an end stage style configuration. Miss Julie is set in a Swedish Manor house. Careful attention to architecture and furniture was key to artistically replicating the look of a kitchen in a manor hose. The audience walks through a hallway of the house to enter the kitchen. The exits of the characters are carefully thought out to be bedrooms, hallway exits to the servant’s corridors, and exits to the rest of the house. The lighting fixtures are practicals and the appliances are working with running water to provide a realistic, intimate space.
